Mapping Climate-Risk Disclosure
A visual analysis of risk language in corporate disclosure filings, done in conjunction with CookESG Research in the context of the seminar Data, Digital Methods and Mapping Social Complexity.
The series of visualizations found on this site are an initial step in an on-going project to map out different public and private arenas where “climate-risk” is being mobilized as a matter of economic and political concern. Corporate disclosure filings represent one particularly interesting arena because of the sometimes contested nature of disclosures and the tendency of companies to say just enough, but not too much, regarding how climate change might affect the present or future value of their businesses, which leads to a lot of variety in how risk is being discussed and described. The visualizations are to provide investors, analysts, and financial regulators with a clearer picture of the state of climate-related disclosures.
